Your appointments at Luton CMSK
How soon will I be seen?
You will have an initial assessment within 10 working days of your referral being received (from the GP) if it is deemed urgent. If your referral is deemed as routine, you will have an assessment within 25 working days. Your GP will decide whether you require an urgent or routine appointment based on their initial assessment.
What happens during my appointment?
You will be assessed and either given advice and a self-management plan (including referrals to Live Well Luton or Active Luton), referred for diagnostic imaging, referred on to a consultant or referred for one to one physiotherapy. Your clinician will be able to explain what will happen in more detail.
Treatments and care may include:
- Self-care advice and literature
- Manual therapy
- Soft tissue mobilisation
- Exercise programmes
Once you have completed your sessions of care, your GP will be notified of the outcome within five days of discharge.
How do I cancel or change my appointment?
If you cannot make the appointment, please contact us as soon as you can ideally with at least 48 hours’ notice as this will allow us sufficient time to offer the appointment to someone else. Our contact details are included here in the contact details section and our bookings team is available 8am – 6pm Monday to Friday.
Please note: If you fail to attend an appointment without 24 hours’ notice and you do not make contact for five days, you will be discharged back to your GP
How long will my appointment take?
Appointment times will vary. Most initial appointments tend to take about 40 minutes. Follow up appointments take approximately 20 minutes.
Who will treat me?
Our team consists of physiotherapists, extended scope practitioners (ESPs), orthopaedic, rheumatology and chronic pain consultants.
Can I bring children with me to the appointment?
If you need to bring any children with you, please arrange for someone to supervise them during the appointment.
